Annual Symposium 2026 Summary

Annual Symposium 2026 Summary

OCTOBer 22, 2026

At CDH we strive to create spaces where experts from different fields can come together to generate insights that no single discipline could achieve alone. This Symposium is always a highlight of our year, and a reminder of the vision and purpose that drive this field forward.

Reflecting on the day’s discussions, we are struck by technologies that seemed like distant possibilities only a few years ago have become part of everyday healthcare, and how much the future of these innovations will depend on the choices we make today.

In her opening remarks, our Associate Director, Dr. Maya Adam, urged us to use the time freed up by AI to nurture the qualities that make us uniquely human: our capacity for empathy, creativity and connection. It was heartening to hear this sentiment echoed throughout the day: panelists discussing pharmacy of the future envisioned a model in which technology unburdens pharmacists from repetitive tasks, allowing them to devote more time to building relationships with patients; we heard how tools like OpenEvidence enable physicians to focus their energies on human-centered care without losing currency with medical research; our ‘Health Beyond the Clinic’ panel exemplified how digital platforms facilitate reaching populations that are left out of traditional healthcare systems; and our closing ‘Healthcare 2030’ panel anticipated a future of “hands-free physicians”, freed from their keyboards to engage more directly with patients.

Yet the pace of change also calls for humility about how much remains unknown. As we consider how AI might reshape the practice of medicine, we must recognize the limits of our ability to anticipate its consequences. Thank you to everyone who contributed time, energy and insight to make this year’s symposium such a success.

Thank you very much to everyone who joined us for this year’s Annual Symposium, we hope to see you again next year!
